Global Rainfall Erosivity: JRC research, published today in the Nature Group's Scientific Reports, presents the results of an extensive global data collection effort that calculated the rainfall erosivity index at 3,625 meteorological stations in 63 countries.

You can contribute to the first global assessment of the impacts on soil biodiversity by both anthropogenic and non-anthropogenic pressures. Please respond to the survey.

A new dataset was added: N2O emissions from agricultural soils in Europe.

New dataset: "Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) Projections for Europe": consists of a number of data layers that cover the current SOC Stocks (2016) and the projected SOC Stocks by 2050, for various Climate Scenarios (CCSM4, HadGEM2-AO , IPSL-CM5A-LR MRI-CGCM3) and Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs).

A new soil function dataset has been added: "Soil Biomass Productivity maps of grasslands and pasture, of croplands and of forest areas in the European Union (EU27)". This dataset consists of 3 GIS maps, associated to the peer-reviewed article "Continental-scale assessment of provisioning soil functions in Europe"

Soil erosion modelling workshop in Ispra (Italy), 20-22 March 2017. In case of interest, please send the pre-registration form. This workshop will discuss mainly issues how the local and regional modeling results can be upscaled (or applied) at European scale.

New Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas illustrates global soil biodiversity and threats to soil organisms. For the first time, a global map of soil biodiversity has been created. It is a new atlas, which pays tribute to soil organisms, the hidden engine that keeps the planet alive. Published by the JRC, it is available online from 23 May. The atlas will be launched at a dedicated side event of the 2^nd UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) in Nairobi on 25 May.

The Tea Bag Index has as objective to create a global soil map of tea bag decomposition. If you are interested to join this experiment, and agree with the terms and conditions, you can apply till 1 February 2017.
 

RECARE project report: Soil threats in Europe: Status, methods, drivers and effects on ecosystem services.

Luca Montanarella has published an article in NATURE with the title "Agricultural policy: Govern our soils". The article underlines the need for a voluntary international agreement to protect the ground beneath our feet from erosion and degradation

JRC soil erosion team in collaboration with NERC has published a correspondence article in Nature. This comment is based on the recent assessment of soil loss by water erosion in Europe.
