Soil Datasets > Data > Soil Threats Data
In this section of the Soil Portal, data related to soil threats as they have been identified to Soil Thematic Strategy are presented. Detailed information about the Soil Threats can be found in the relevant section of the portal. For some soil threats such as Soil Erosion, Organic Carbon Decline, Compaction, Salinisation, Landslides and Heavy Metals, JRC holds a number of datasets which are presented here and they are available for downloading. For the rest of soil Threats such as Soil Biodiversity Decline and Soil Sealing, the data will be presented when they will be available.
Soil Erosion
- PESERA Data: Soil erosion estimates (t/ha/yr) by applying the PESERA GRID model at 1km, using the European Soil Database, CORINE land cover, climate data from the MARS Project and a Digital Elevation Model. Download Data
- MESALES Data : Prior to the PESERA project, Soil Erosion Risk Assessment data have been calculated by INRA (France) under contract to the JRC based on the Soil Geographical Data Base of Europe at scale 1:1 Million. Download Data
- G2 Data : G2 model has been applied in Crete island and the cross-border basin of Strymonas river ( South East Europe - Greece / Bulgaria). Download Data
- Soil Erodibility (K-Factor) Data (high resolution): We calculated soil erodibility using measured soil data and applying Cubist interpolation Techniques. The input data have been collected during the 2009 LUCAS (Land Use and Cover Area frame Survey) soil survey campaign across the member states of the European Union. Download Data
- Rainfall Erosivity (R-Factor) Data: We calculated rainfall erosivity (R-factor) for European Union and Switzerland. The R-factor map is based on the Rainfall Erosovity Database on the European Scale (REDES) which includes R-factor values from 1,541 precipitation stations in all European Union(EU) Member States and Switzerland. Download Data
- Wind Erosion Data: The dataset provides an overview of the geographic spread of areas prone to wind erosion. This dataset shows the 30 year average soil erosivity according to climatic conditions and soil erodibility. Download Data
- European soil erosion data from applying USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) at European scale will be available in the future
Organic Carbon
- Organic carbon content (%) in the surface horizon of soils in Europe: The data are in ESRI GRID format and are available as an ASCII raster file or in native ESRI GRID format. Download Data
- Pan-European Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stock of agricultural soils: Soil organic stock (t C ha-1) in the layer 0-30 cm at 2010 and hectares under agricultural land use. Download Data
- Global Soil Organic Carbon estimates; density (t ha-1) for the topsoil (0 – 30cm) and the subsoil layer (30 – 100cm) from the amended HWSD: The data are in Idrisi format. Download Data
- Topsoil Soil Organic Carbon (LUCAS) : % od Soil organic carbon in the 20cm of soils based on LUCAS survey. Download Data
Soil Compaction
- Natural soil susceptibility to compaction: The evaluation of the soil’s natural susceptibility (6 classes) is based on the creation of logical connections between relevant parameters (pedotransfer rules). Download Data
Soil Salinisation
- Saline and Sodic Soils in the EU: the datasets shows the area distribution of saline, sodic and potentially salt affected areas within the European Union (5 Classes). Download Data
Soil Contamination
- Data on Contaminated Sites: The data that form the basis for the recently published JRC Reference Report "Progress in the Management of Contaminated Sites in Europe" are available to the public, as an MS Excel file that incorporates not only the data collected in 2012/2012 but also the data from previous exercises
- Heavy metals in European soils: Mapping concentrations of eight critical heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, nickel, lead and zinc) using the 1588 georeferenced topsoil samples from the FOREGS Geochemical database.
Soil Acidification
- Soil pH in Europe: The JRC created a quantitative map of estimated soil pH values across Europe from a compilation of 12,333 soil pH measurements from 11 different sources, and using a geo-statistical framework based on Regression-Kriging. Download Data
Landslides
- European Landslide Susceptibility Map (ELSUS1000) v1: The map shows five classes of spatial probability of landslide occurrence at 1 km resolution. It has been produced by the European Landslide Expert Group through heuristic-statistical modelling of main landslide conditioning factors using also landslide location data. The downloadable data also includes a number of ancillary maps. Download Data
