This section includes links to data that find its origin in some of the many soil related projects at JRC. Note that many of the cited projects did not allow data publication as a consequence of copyright issues.
- (Jun 2011) Geoland 2: G2 model is a new generic model for erosion, resulted from the cooperation of JRC/IES/Land Management & Natural Hazards Unit/SOIL Action and the Lab of Forest Management and Remote Sensing of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the framework of geoland2 project. G2 estimates soil loss (in t/ha) from sheet and interril erosion caused by splash and runoff, on a month-step basis and on a landscape scale. G2 model has been applied in the cross-border basin of Strymonas river (14,500 km2), located in South East Europe (Greece / Bulgaria). The data of Strymonas application are provided for free in raster format (Grid and TIFF), in the ETRS89 LAEA Coordinate System; temporal coverage: Monthly for the period 1997-2006. Download Data
- (May 2011) European Food Agency Data (EFSA) Data: In the context of Service Level Agreement between JRC and EFSA, a series of datasets have been developed as support to the FATE and the ECOREGION EFSA PPR Working Groups. The data include: Soil maps (Organic matter content of the topsoil, pH of the topsoil, Bulk density of the topsoil, Texture of the topsoil, Water content at field capacity), Meteorological maps (Mean monthly temperature, Mean annual temperature, Arrhenius weighted mean annual temperature, Mean monthly precipitation , Mean annual precipitation), Land use - Land cover - CAPRI Land cover maps, General maps (Masker of all files, Countries of the EU-27, Regulatory zones , FOCUS Zones). Download Data
- (Aug 2012) Biochar: Meta-analysis Database is being made publically available in order that the meta-analysis can be updated as new results become available.
- (Sep 2011) iSOIL: iSOIL has generated a wealth of data (maps and associated data sets) integrated for the Nine (9) main project field sites (from 4 countries: Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Bulgaria) that can be used by other scientists. The data Dissemination Platform for the test sites is online. Download Data
- (Jun 2010) Renewable Energy Directive (support): Available Thematic Data Layers for Commission Decision of [11 June 2010] on guidelines for the calculation of land carbon stocks for the purpose of Annex V to Directive 2009/28/EC. The Climatic Zone layer is defined based on the classification of IPCC (IPCC, 2006). Soil types are classified according to the World Reference Base (WRB). Moreover, we make available Spatial Layers for Estimating GHG Emissions from Indirect Land Use Changes(ILUC) due to the Production of Biofuels (Reference Grid, Global Land Cover, Climate and Ecological Zones, soil organic C-stocks ). Download Data
- (Apr 2013) Climate Change Regional Indicators of Change and Extremes(CC_ICE): Indicators of climate change and extremes from regional models coming from 3 sources: PRUDENCE project of the Danish Meteorological Institute, consortial simulation of the Climate Limited-area Modelling (CLM) Community, 12 runs of bias-corrected data from the ENSEMBLES project. Download Data
- RamSoil project assess the options for harmonization of different risk assessment methodologies that are in use. The RAMSOIL database is stored in Excel format
- ECALP Data: Eco- pedological Map for the Alpine Territory. The Ecalp Database has been implemented for the Pilot Areas (Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli V.G - Slovenia, etc) according to the Inspire Reference Grid. Data in Access format
- European Reference Grids: In the context of INSPIRE it is expected that exchange of soil related data at regional, national and European level will happen in a grid- or raster-like fashion. The basis for such work is the availability of standard or reference grids in a common co-ordinate system with fixed cell sizes and common cell coding. The Soil Action has implemented this proposal and created a number of reference grids for the EU25 countries, with cell sizes of 1km and 10km.
- GroundWater Resources: A comprehensive picture, at European Union scale, of the aquifers and their characteristics is available in digital form. Aquifers; Groundwater hydrology, directions of groundwater flow and of water transfers; Groundwater hydrology, contours of the watertable or the potentiometric surface; Groundwater hydrology, Springs; Groundwater hydrology, Areas of seawater intrusion or saline groundwater; Groundwater abstraction. Download Data
- SINFO: Soil data for Europe are used in the Crop Growth Monitoring System (CGMS) which is a part of the Mars Crop Yield Forecasting System (MCYFS).
- SRTM: The Joint Research Center (together with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, Colombia) provides processed SRTM 90m Digital Elevation Data for the entire world.
