Oihane Fernández Ugalde graduated in Agricultural Engineering at the Public University of Navarre (Spain) in 2006. She received her PhD in Soil Science at the same university in 2010, after an internship at the Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment - USDA in Iowa (USA). She worked as post-doc researcher at the Laboratory of Geology of the École Normale Supérieure of Paris (France, 2011-2012) and the Geology Department of the University of the Basque Country (Spain, 2013). She joined the Soil Project of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in 2014. Her research topics are: soil quality of agro-ecosystems, dynamics of soil organic carbon in agro-ecosytems, mechanisms of soil structure formation and stabilization, and contribution of organo-mineral interactions to aggregation and organic carbon storage in soil. Her work at JRC is focused on the development of soil quality indicators and of soil monitoring systems at European scale.
