Soil biodiversity scientist

Description: 

A position within the research project “EU Soil Observatory” (EUSO) to support the implementation of the Soil Monitoring Law through the design and upgrade of the Soil Health Dashboard, with a specific focus on soil biodiversity.

We are looking for a scientist with the following essential qualifications:
- A PhD degree OR at least 5 years job-related experience in soil science, earth sciences, biology/ecology, environmental or agricultural sciences, spatial data processing or related fields
- A high level of written and oral English is required (C1).
In addition, the following competences will be considered as an advantage:
- Experience in any of the following: indicator or dashboard development, statistics, spatial data processing (GIS) / database skills, programming/scripting capacity (e.g. R, Python), ecology, bio-informatics, eDNA metagenomics or meta-barcoding.
- Experience in any of the following: soil biodiversity monitoring and assessments, soil aspects in ecosystem assessments, or ecosystem services, ecology.
- Solid record of research activities relevant to the post in international peer-reviewed journals, together with policy briefs, science policy or technical reports is an advantage.
- Ability to work in a team and in a multi-cultural environment;
- The candidate is expected to be creative and work independently.
