2nd Young Soil Researchers Forum

On the 14th and 15th of October 2024, the 2nd edition of the Young Soil Researchers Forum took place. The YSRF was a successful networking and knowledge exchange event. Early career scientists were given the floor to present their work and to get in contact with senior soil scientists, policy makers, and other relevant stakeholders. The 2nd edition of the YSRF also included a session dedicated to jobs and funding opportunities, including keynote presentations from EU Human Resources Administration to describe job opportunities within the Joint Research Centre and other services of the European Commission (e.g. Marie-Curie opportunities). All presentations and recordings are available at the bottom of this page.

At the 2nd edition of the Young Soil Researchers Forum, EUSO also launched a Call for Papers for a Special Issue in the European Journal of Soil Sciences.
Details will be made available very soon.

Young soil researchers represent a generation that will respond to future open questions in soil science and implement connected policy developments. They will deal with emerging challenges (such as climate change and biodiversity crisis) and also with new opportunities for soil protection (such as big data, machine learning, one-health aspects, and earth system sciences). It is in this context that the EU Soil Observatory (EUSO) launched a platform for Young Soil Researchers. In 2021, at the first gathering of the EUSO Stakeholders Forum, young researchers were actively engaged through the establishment of the 1st Young Soil Researchers Forum. Over 50 early-career scientists had the opportunity to present and discuss their findings and potential implications for policy development. This first edition resulted in the publication of the EUSO Young Soil Researchers Forum thematic issue in the European Journal of Soil Sciences.
